It’s autumn and a great time to learn how to crochet granny squares in time for winter! Crocheting is a great way to slow down your over-thinky mind ( proper term) and concentrate on making something great from scratch.

Come and learn how to crochet granny squares with me, on Sunday 1st May 2016 at Café Verona in Balmain NSW at 2pm-4pm. If you are a total beginner, I can be there 15 mins beforehand to show you how to hold the hook and yarn and how to get started. If you have any questions please email me at vanessaion@ymail.com

Shane The Sheep

imageIt’s all gone horribly right. I was happily crocheting away, making a sheep for a friend who casually asked for a sheep toilet roll cosy AGES ago, ( friend, if you’re reading this, I’m sooo massively sorry it took me this long to get round to it and you might not want it any more and I completely understand because…) then I thought it would be fun to make it look a bit odd and so I made him a set of glow in the dark teeth:

Toilet roll cosies! Like granny used to make, kind of.

I think my love for toilet roll cosies comes from this:

My nanna used to live seven doors from our house on a busy dual carriageway in Leeds, UK. She had a very sweet looking doll toilet roll cosy, concealing a toilet roll under the frilly skirt. My brother and I used to dare each other to wear it like a hat and nonchalantly walk up the street, past the bus stop and home, which we both did before getting caught! And 25 years later, I’m making my own version. Obviously i don’t wear them anymore…because my head is too big now.
